Social media fatigue would cause a normal person to give up trying to keep up with all the happenings in the Internet world, as there would either be too much for the person to handle or there just isn’t any reason for that person to stay interested anymore, causing him to get bored. In turn, businesses would end up losing their customers because of lost interest. This extends to employees as well, as the burn out would also affect their ability to work in the office and produce output. For keeping customer interest, this can done by keeping things interesting for them. One reason why people use social media networks is to relax and connect with other people, possibly after a long day; bombarding them with advertisements and promotions would kill their mood even further, affecting their interest. Companies can use this knowledge to their advantage and start on ways on how to keep customers coming back. This method will help the customer see the company as a group of people just like them, rather than an ad dispensing machine. As for preventing employee burnout, Kelsey suggests the method of “divide and conquer.” Dividing employees to have them handle different tasks will lift a burden from their shoulders, as they wouldn’t have to worry about manage a huge number of accounts all at once, preventing burn out.
Preventing social media fatigue is a simple but important mission for businesses; it just requires effort on the part of the company to make sure everyone from all sides stays interested. As such, businesses should be wary of such dangers and should continue to actively work to prevent it, before it deals too much damage.
