When we budget, we always look into the bigger picture. We plan on buying a TV and try cutting corners on other expenditures or plan to throw a well-deserved birthday bash for our graduated son and plan on reducing the number of outings we have for the month. However, many of us don’t look into the steady yet small amount of money we shell out every month for things which we can very well do by ourselves! One of the examples is household cleaners! We can compromise on clothes, food, furniture, etc. One thing we cannot compromise is on the household cleaner. Today, you get all kinds of fancy cleaners for each and every room of your house. Though the ads promise instant shiny houses in a single swipe, the truth is you have to keep scrubbing till the dirt goes off. The cleaners you get outside use ingredients you have readily available at home. So instead of buying cleaners, here are a few ways to use homemade cleaners: Bathroom cleaner:
Bathrooms are always a pain to clean. You have to scrub everything, from your vanity to your bath tub. Instead of using different types of cleaners for which you pay exorbitant prices, all you need is some baking soda. Salt could be too abrasive for your delicate tiled counters, baking soda will work out excellently. Mix it with some water and dab it on your bath tub and tiled counters, wait for 15 minutes. For the floor, generously use the baking soda, use a brush and scrub the places. Pour a bit of white vinegar and finally give it a thorough wash. Your bathroom will look squeaky clean without spending much! Mirror cleaner: Nothing can look uglier than a dirty mirror! You must have tried all kinds of glass sprays that are available in the supermarket! All you need is equal portions of rubbing alcohol, white vinegar and water! Dilute the ingredients really well and scrub your mirrors and windows using old rags or paper towels. They work just like the cleaners you get from stores. Oven cleaner: Though there are self-cleaning ovens nowadays, it has to be run on high temperatures to get the cleaning done. You can mix a quarter cup of baking soda with 2 tbsp of salt and dilute it with hot water. Dab the paste on the grime areas when the oven is soft. The dirt softens after 10 minutes and you can wipe it off with a cloth! Jewelry cleaner: This is probably one of the hardest things to clean and probably one of the most expensive! Here is a simple remedy that doesn’t dig a hole in your pocket: Take equal quantities of salt, detergent, baking soda (preferably one tablespoon) and dilute it with water. Rest your jewelry in it for 15 minutes and drain it. The dirt stuck between your jewelry will come off. Don’t touch the liquid or soak all metals at once. Throw the liquid after one use. This is a good cleaner only for precious metals like silver, gold and platinum. These are a few simple ways in making your own cleaning remedies that are cost-efficient.
