Traveling is something that we all have to do at some point in our lives for one reason or another; however, even though it may seem that when you work from home it is going to be easier for you to get off to take care of your traveling emergencies this is not always the case — especially if it is a last-minute traveling emergency. So, the question is how can you travel and still make money from home? Set a Schedule
Obviously, just because you have an emergency come up that causes you to have to travel, it does not mean that you are free from your work duties. So, while you away from your home, you are going to need to have a schedule in place. The schedule should give you some time to work every day so you can make sure that you do not fall behind. We all know what one day away from our emails can do to us, so just imagine if you go a whole week without checking in. Inform Your Clients If you have to travel because of a family emergency, it is best to alert your clients especially if you work full time from home. You are going to want to let them know as far in advance as you can — basically the moment you find out. This way the two of you can come up with a plan that will allow you to still keep your duties but also make sure that the client is happy as well. If you do not inform them and, for some reason, they cannot get in contact with you when they need to, you are going to be in for some unnecessary drama and stress. Instill the Same Work Methods That You Would if You Were Home When traveling you are going to be vulnerable to a lot of distractions — people trying to talk to you, loud environments, etc.; however, when you get to your destination, inform people that you are trying to work and cannot be bothered if you are staying with relatives. Many people who do not work from home do not understand the concept. So, you have to make them understand that you are working and you cannot be disturbed. If you are staying at hotel, you should work at the desk and you should also leave the television and radio off. Overall, when you have to travel, you want to make sure that you are following the same protocol that you would at your own home. Obviously, some things, such as your schedule, will have to be modified, but when it comes to your work ethic, that should remain the same.
