There are some businesses for which it is easy to write engaging web content. Their products or services are interesting and there is lots of useful information to help get you started on the task of making their website enjoyable and informative. But, unfortunately, if you have to write website content for a living, you are likely to be already aware of the difficulties caused when the business in question is in a niche area such as damage restoration. So how can you make damage restoration sound interesting? Know Your SubjectThe key to writing about a niche business is to have a reasonable understanding of what they actually do. For example, a damage restoration company fixes damage caused by fire, floods, mildew and other environmental misadventures. People visiting the company’s website will probably be looking for factual information about the services on offer, so it pays to do some research and find out exactly what the company does offer. Once you have a framework in place, you can do some research and flesh out a few subheadings. Check out Similar WebsitesIf you really have no idea what to write about, check out websites in the same niche and see what type of information they offer. Obviously you should definitely not plagiarize existing content, but it can be helpful to view similar websites as they will give you a better idea of the types of topics you need to include in your web content. Utilize Existing ContentIf the business has an existing website, you may be able to utilize the existing content. Perhaps the existing content is old and tired—if so, give it a new spin and add some fresh stuff to flesh it out. In some cases you will need to include the current content—for example products and services offered—but always rewrite and change the old content rather than copying and pasting it into the new text. Find a New AngleWebsite copy needs to be engaging and interesting. Dry, boring text is not likely to hold a visitor’s attention for long, so your job is to make it fun to read, even if the topic is mold and mildew. Inject some personality into your text and keep it light and easy to read because overly dry content is a huge turn off for readers. Don’t Go Overboard on the Technical DetailsThere may be occasions where you have to write about very technical subjects. In this instance, it will be hard not to get too bogged down in the detail. However, try and avoid using too much technical language unless you are specifically instructed to do so as this will alienate the majority of your readers. Where possible, use simple language and make your content easy to understand. Writing good quality website content can be tough when the subject matter is extremely dry or boring, but it can be done. Start off with a framework of topics to cover and make sure you break the text up into easy to swallow chunks. Lastly, try and make the subject matter seem interesting, even if it is like watching paint dry. Featured images:
