Fun Spring Activities that Won’t Break the Bank

Finally the weather outside isn’t so frightful anymore! When spring comes, we’re often inspired to get out of the house and do something fun. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and end up spending a small fortune on spring activities. To avoid breaking the bank, here are some fun ideas that are also incredibly cheap.

Visit the Park

A trip to a nearby park is completely free, and it can offer you a wide variety of opportunities for activities. Different parks have different features, so check out parks in neighboring towns for a change of scenery. You might let the kids play on the playground, go for a run or leisurely stroll, sit on a bench and people watch, ride your bike, or have a picnic. Lots of fun sports activities can be done here, too.
Play Some Sports

You don’t have to be athletic to enjoy some spring sports opportunities. There are lots of fun and relatively easy warm-weather games to play with your family and friends such as Frisbee, badminton, Wiffle ball, horseshoes, or even a simple game of catch. If you’re looking for something more invigorating, try a game of tennis at a local court, or round up a large group of friends and play some touch football.
Host a Potluck

Spring is a great time to do some entertaining. Everyone is eager to get out of the house and enjoy the weather, so pick a nice night to host some friends. If you have an outdoor deck or patio, invite everyone over for a barbeque. To avoid spending a lot on the party, make it a potluck and ask everyone to bring a different dish or beverage. Enjoy some food, cocktails, and good company outside.
Enjoy Community Activities

If you haven’t been taking advantage of local community activities, make it a point to start this spring. Your municipality likely hosts a wide variety of free or very inexpensive activities and events such as barbeques, movie nights, and concerts. Find a list of events, and enjoy them. You’ll probably even meet some new people from around town. Your local library also may have fun activities planned throughout the spring and summer, especially for children.
Check Out a Farmer’s Market

With spring crops in abundance, it’s a great time to check out local farmers’ markets and produce stands. Rather than buy your fruits and veggies in the grocery store, buy in-season, fresh produce straight from the source. They might even have other cool things for sale. If you have kids, they’ll enjoy visiting the farm. The produce you get will be delicious, and you’ll be supporting your local economy.
Plant a Garden

If you have a garden or some extra space in your yard, plant some flowers, vegetables, or shrubs. The seeds or seedlings won’t be very expensive, and it’s a fun way to enjoy the weather while beautifying your yard at the same time. Kids will love digging in the dirt, and caring for a garden is a very rewarding and relaxing activity.
