While I was gathering up documents and receipts to take to my accountant this week to get started on my taxes, a thought came across my mind to talk about investing in your blog business.
In order for your blog business to succeed you must invest in it. I know my blog is about earning money for free online but to go above and beyond the free money making opportunities, it'll take money to make money.
When I first started blogging, I went the free route. I made some ok income that was enough to pay a couple of bills but I wanted to take my blogs to the next level, and in order to do that I had to start pulling money out of my own pockets to invest in it.
Below is a list of investments I did for my blogging business:
Hosting- This blog is done on Weebly's platform and for years I was using their free package. Just last year I paid for their Starter package ($3.29 a month) that gave me more options to be more creative with my blog. This year I put in a little more money and opted for their Pro plan ($6.63 a month) to get a lot more features on my blog. ($100+ a year)
Domain Name- Subdomain names like earningfreemoney.weebly.com doesn't look good because the url is way too long and it doesn't look professional, so I pay to have a personalized domain name. Plus it doesn't cost a whole lot of to have a domain name anyway. ($29.99+ a year)
Graphic Designer- Just last year I decided to hire a graphic designer to design my blogs. I found a good person to do it off of Fiverr that has over 5 years experience and her prices doesn't break the bank. ($150+ a year)
Article Writing- Sometimes I don't have the time to write, so I hire a writer off of Fiverr to do some ghostwriting work for me. I tell them the topics I'd like for them to write about and what keywords to use. ($200+ a year)
Advertisement- I hardly ever do paid advertisement and when I do it was on Facebook which was a complete waste of money. I paid $5 here and there to boost my post but never seen anything come out of doing that. I remember when I first started blogging back in 2008, I use to pay for advertising on forums with little to no luck doing that as well. ($50+ a year)
Since these are my current investments on my blogging business, I know I'll be investing more money into it in the future to make my blog more profitable.
Here is my motto:
