Marco is an Italian Economics graduate working as assistant curator in one of New York’s upmarket art galleries. He lives alone in his flat at 75 Wall street. Like million other Manhattan citizens, his residence is within the evacuation zone. He lives on the 32nd floor, so the order is not binding. He bides his time. He’s in touch with family over the phone and email but has difficulties reaching his parents, on a trip in India. When Sandy hits and the power dies in Lower Manhattan, he’s effectively trapped in his building. He’s no in immediate danger but has to face the issue of food and generally communicating with the outside world. Did you know that close to 10 full blown storms develop over the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea regions each year? That’s a lot of destruction blowing around for anybody’s convenience. More than half of these storms muster enough strength to qualify to become hurricanes. The saving grace is that most of them lie centered over the ocean with little impact on the United States. Sadly, some hurricanes do cross over and strike the coastline, though this happens just once in about three years.
The statistics surrounding New Year's resolutions are pretty grim. The majority of American adults who resolve to lose weight or get their tax returns filed ASAP understand they'll probably miss the mark on the goal. Set reasonable goals for yourself. Instead of trying to lose 30 pounds fast, think about building a healthy lifestyle and making sure you don't miss out on earned income credit. New Methods Of Data StorageTraditionally devices such as floppy disks, CDs, magnetic tapes and hard disks have been used to backup data, but with the increasing reliability of cloud backup systems, do they suffice now? Possibly not, as not only is there a vast amount of data to store nowadays, but these devices are not indestructible, and need to be replaced regularly over a period of time. If a virus attacks the computers in your office and destroys all the database files at the same time, how do you recover it, particularly if it was data vital to the operation of the business? It would not be possible. The same scenario would apply in the face of a natural disaster, such as a flood or fire at your premises. |
