So it looks like I’ve dodge the bullet with Squidoo’s Filters thank goodness! I’ve noticed after last week’s scans of Giant Squid accounts, a lot of Giant Squid lensmasters had gotten warnings or locked lenses for either having thin content, way too many affiliate links without enough content, or just flat out spam. With a Giant account, lensmaster use to be able to do pretty much anything they wanted with their lenses but that’s not the case anymore. I’m actually not surprised I haven’t been hit with the filters because the majority of my lenses are personal and I’m passionate about what I write. I didn’t follow the footsteps of some long time Giant Squids that would just write in the introduction module and then filled the lens up with Amazon module with no content at all just looking like a spam catalog.
Also I didn’t create a bunch of coloring pages with links to coloring pages websites, or keyword stuff my lenses. It’s always a habit for me to not really follow other people’s footsteps and do my own thing which helped me to become successful with Affiliate Marketing. It may have taken me several years to learn but I’m pleased that I could say I didn’t need to follow what someone else does. To pass the filters and build traffic, this is what helped me: 1. Be personal. Write about your passion and make sure this passion is something you can update regularly. Squidoo likes fresh content and if you can’t keep your lenses updated, you’ll start noticing your rankings starts to fall. But there are often times I’ve seen lenses haven’t been updated for months still receiving traffic from Google, it all depends if your lens is good quality. 2. Add polls and debate modules. I’ve noticed adding a poll and debate module to my lenses also helps with my rankings with Squidoo. Squidoo likes visitor interaction on lenses. 3. Move Amazon modules close to the top of the lens after first text module. I did this experiment using Squidoo’s suggestion to place it there and my sales have gone way up! I went from having 1 sell a week, to having sales almost every day on my top lens. Also I got better clickouts. 4. Write something personal with keywords in the Amazon Module description. I’ve noticed by doing this, Google used some of my descriptions in searches. Remember to never keyword stuff. 5. Make sure titles in paragraphs has your keywords. The most important title is the beginning title that shows up in Google searches. 6. In the introduction paragraph, make sure you explain what your lens is about and why it’s important to you. People like knowing people’s personal experience with the topic they’re searching for. 7. Write about topics that would help someone. For instance, majority of people that do searches online is looking for help with something, or reviews of products. 8. Make sure to add a Guestbook Module on all lenses. When people leave comments and you comment back, it does get picked up by Google if comments are based on your keywords. If you get a bunch of “nice lens” comments that could actually hurt you because it can get the Google bots confused of what your lens is about, so I pretty much delete them. To start building traffic with your lenses, you need to start networking with other people outside of the Squidoo Community. Joining all those Squidoo Communities created by other Squidoo lensmaster will not help you in the long run but may actually hurt you. Just dropping your lenses link in the Squidoo Communities can eventually look like spam to search engines. Also looking to get “likes” from other Squidoo lensmasters may help some but not much and also you’re not going to make any sales from other lensmasters, so that’s the reason why you need to venture out of the Squidoo circle. Join forums based on your topic of your lenses. Promote your lens in forum signatures. Talk to people in the forums and start networking. Lately I started using Google+ and it has been a great way for me to network with people. I join communities in my niche, introduce myself to the communities, and then start joining in on conversations. When people see how active you are in the community, they want to start knowing more about you, so make sure all your details like your Squidoo profile, blogs, email, and social media contacts are in your profile. Well folks, I hope you found this post helpful. I hope Squidoo bounces back to the great writer’s platform it once was but we as a community need to do our part by creating good quality lenses. By doing this you’ll start noticing better traffic to Squidoo and better tier payouts. Do you having tips to avoid getting hit with Squidoo's Filters?
