Tuesday at 10pm EST, I joined in on #BlogElevated Twitter Chat about topic "Bloggers and Taxes". It was a very informative chat that'll help bloggers know a bit better about handling their taxes and deductions. It's important to pay your taxes each year to stay in good graces with the IRS. You don't want to find yourself hit with penalties, fines, or worst, jail time for tax fraud! Below is a list of tips that'll help you know about taxes for bloggers.

When I started blogging back in 2008, I solely depended on writer's platforms and search engines to bring traffic to this blog. Years has past, and now it's much more harder to receive traffic due to more blogs being created everyday which means more competition, Google is forever changing their algorithm, and so on. I really wish I worked harder on improving my traffic from the very beginning. Maybe it was because I was afraid of putting myself out there, people not liking what I do, or just not interested. Also I do remember the days when I first started blogging, I went about it the wrong way to get traffic by spamming my link everywhere. That's another reason why I stopped trying different ways to build my traffic and just relied on Squidoo and search engines. Now I'm in the full swing of networking and it has been working! Also I've been meeting some great new blogging friends along the way. Some people get caught by surprise how long I've been blogging and the knowledge I know. Here are some ways I've been networking to build up my blog traffic: While I was gathering up documents and receipts to take to my accountant this week to get started on my taxes, a thought came across my mind to talk about investing in your blog business. In order for your blog business to succeed you must invest in it. I know my blog is about earning money for free online but to go above and beyond the free money making opportunities, it'll take money to make money. When I first started blogging, I went the free route. I made some ok income that was enough to pay a couple of bills but I wanted to take my blogs to the next level, and in order to do that I had to start pulling money out of my own pockets to invest in it. Below is a list of investments I did for my blogging business: Join this panel and become a part of a community of like-minded foodies where you can share recipes and cooking tips with other members, to find out what’s new at KitchenAid®, and help design new products that will help inform product development of KitchenAid .Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. You know me, I'm always on the hunt to find different ways to make extra money. So when I find new money making opportunities, I make sure to share it with you all. Last week, Raise.com contacted me to join their current campaign over on my other blog called Give Yourself a Raise. Since I've never heard of them before, I went on their website to take a look. Have you ever had unwanted gift cards and never knew what to do with them? Well Raise.com is a marketplace where you can sell your gift cards and also purchase discounted gift cards. Here's how Raise.com works, While I was sitting around on Sunday, I took to my phone to watch some YouTube videos from some of my favorite beauty bloggers. While browsing through videos, YouTube suggested me to watch “The Ugly Truth about YouTube & Business” by Taren Guy. Taren Guy made some valid points about knowing your worth when it comes to dealing with advertisers. A lot of advertisers wants something for nothing while you do all the hard work for them like vlogging/blogging about their products, advertising their products on social media, and so on. Companies have budgets to advertise their products and vloggers/bloggers should be included too. Don't work for free for them and let them use you! When it comes to receiving free products from companies for you to review to your audience, Taren Guy suggested that you really should be getting compensated for it if your following numbers are high. Since I'm a product review blogger and receive free products from companies, at this time I do not charge for my reviews but when it comes to advertorials, I do. My numbers when it comes to followers isn’t high enough yet to charge for product reviews if I wanted to go that route. But the question is, is paid product reviews actually genuine reviews? Do you think that vloggers/bloggers should be paid for reviews or is the product itself the compensation? Search engine optimization is always changing, and it is important to keep up with all of the most recent SEO news if you want to be successful at it. Although it can seem challenging to keep up with such a fast-changing industry, there are quite a few ways that you can stay up-to-date on all of the newest and most important SEO news. Some bloggers were worried after they heard Matt Cutts’s most recent warning about spammy guest blogging strategies. The truth is that guest blogging is still a great online marketing. However, it is becoming harder to do it properly. Kalen Smith is an avid blogger, freelance writer and SEO consultant that built his career on guest blogging. Kalen recently created a new ebook to help other bloggers get more of a benefit from guest blogging. You can find this new ebook at his website Guestbloggingresources.com. His ebook helps bloggers develop the following skills: In the blogging world, I see so many people trying to be what they're not or just duplicating what they see others are doing and they wonder why they don't go very far with their blogs. While on Google+ a day ago, I came across an interesting post about 12 Reasons I am Not Migrating From Blogger to WordPress from a blogger I follow. I really commend her for writing this post because I'm just about tired of hearing other bloggers saying you're not professional, or your blog can be shut down any time by Google. Yes, Google can shut your blog down if you don't follow their rules, but as long as you're following them you don't have a problem. |
